  • Questions we asked Master Tony Reck...

How did you get your start with your career as a Martial Arts Instructor?

"Well, its a story... when I was 6 years old, my Dad entered me into a free 2 week Martial Arts class giveaway because I was being bullied by a neighborhood kid. We won! After my very first class, I told my Dad I wanted to become a Martial Arts Teacher when I grew up. Let's just say, that after that I wasn't bullied anymore.

Over the years I studied Martial Arts and while in high school I was able to take classes that counted as P.E. credits. My Martial Arts Instructor in my high school began teaching me how to instruct classes, even before becoming a Black Belt. After high school I volunteered for 5 years teaching with a Martial Arts Organization that my younger brother and sister attended. I was 19 years old when I started my first official martial arts club in the Tucson Unified School District."

What has been the top accomplishments of the organization over the past year from 2025-2026?

    • Moving locations and creating our new "dojo home"
    • Expanding Wild Tiger into a fitness training center
    • Creating more emphasis on sports competition for the Martial Arts
    • Partnering with Sifu Jonathan Derksen to add another style of Martial Arts for our Tae Kwon Do students
    • Partnering with Prescott Valley Charter School to bring Martial Arts to their students through their enrichment programs

What is your favorite part about teaching Tae Kwon Do?

"My favorite part of teaching is witnessing children build confidence in themselves as they move up in belt ranks, and see them achieve that sense of true leadership".

What have been some of your biggest challenges as a student of Martial Arts, and how do you use these to help your own students?

"My biggest challenge has been turning weaknesses into strengths and then using that as an example of how my students can do so. An example would be turning your focus towards the path you want to go down instead of focusing on the past and staying angry about it."

What kind of legacy do you want to pass on?

"I want to pass on the ideals of walking the path of a true Martial Artist, training the mind with the body as a warrior, continuous study, and learning to vascillate between being the student and the leader throughout the entirety of life."
